Invasive Plant Removal at and around the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden
The Friends Invasive Plant Action Group had been busy over the past years removing Garlic Mustard and Buckthorn from and around the Wildflower Garden.
October 26, 2012 Buckthorn Removal
A Conservation Corps Minnesota (CCM) crew was hired by The Friends to cut and treat Buckthorn in the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden buffer zone. The five member crew were AmeriCorps workers and were assisted by Friends Invasive Plant Action Group co-coordinators Jim Proctor and Liz Anderson, and also by Garden Curator Susan Wilkins. They worked a 10-hour day and worked on Buckthorn that was too large for the previous crews to remove by hand. Significant inroads were also made into new heavily infested areas. Thanks to Liz Anderson for the photos.
